HELPFUL DEFINITIONS: (most shoes contain two or more of these properties)
- STEEL TOE: What you probably think of when the term "safety shoes" comes to mind. Our Steel Toe Safety Cap provides maximum toe room for comfort and the ultimate in protection and ergonomic benefit. Structured steel cap is capable of withstanding over 2500 lbs. of compression and 75 lbs. of impact. All of our safety toe styles meet or exceed ASTM impact and compression specifications. - COMPOSITE TOE: Our composite toe is also a safety shoe that passes OSHA requirements! Especially good when used in extreme temperatures and areas where metal detectors are present, the composite toe option is a perfect alternative when steel isn't practical or comfortable. Our unique design dissipates impact and meets or exceeds ASTM specifications, which means these shoes are qualified for your workplace. View All Composite Toe Styles...
- PUBLIC SAFETY: Our public safety footwear is made for police, firefighters, security personnel, military, paramedics, and any other people who need quality safety foot gear without the inflated prices. Our shoes are perfect for uniform requirements for these professionals. View All Public Safety Styles...
- SOFT TOE: These shoes are often exact replicas of our best-selling shoes without the safety toe inside. We like the N4092 and the N4600, which are great for the ESD protection but don't have a safety toe cap inside the shoe.
- MET-GUARD: The Metatarsal Guard offers protection for the top of the foot as well as the toes. It features maximum flexibility, comfort and durability for those unique work environments that require met-guard protection. The hinged construction and long-wearing toe wrap offer the ultimate in protection and wearability. Our Met Guard shoes meet or exceed ASTM specifications.
- ESD: Stands for Electrical-Dissipative Footwear, which means that these shoes are approved for clean rooms and other technically-sensitive areas. Our ESD shoes meet SD Type I requirements for static dissipative footwear. To be marketed as Electric Static Dissipating Footwear, a shoe must pass testing requirements established by ASTM. Shoes can be classified as SD Type I or SD Type II. SD Type I must offer electrical resistance greater than 1, but less than 100 megohms. SD Type II offer electrical resistance greater than 1, but less than 1000 megohms. All Nautilus SD Type I products perform in the 2-10 megohm range required by sophisticated electronics industry companies. Please note that replacing the stock insole with insoles other than Nautilus Safety Footwear Static-Dissipating Anti-Fatigue Replacement Insoles could adversely affect or invalidate the SD properties of this footwear.
- ELECTRICAL HAZARD (EH): Electrical Hazard shoes are designed to protect the wearer from open electrical circuits of 600 volts or less under dry conditions. These shoes are secondary protection on surfaces that are substantially insulated. These shoes meet ASTM requirements. Caution: These shoes should not be worn in explosive or hazardous areas where conductive footwear is required...please do not confuse ESD and EH footwear! If you have questions, ask your safety director.
- PUNCTURE-RESISTANT: Puncture resistant footwear contains a midsole which is designed to reduce the hazards of puncture wounds caused by sharp objects penetrating the sole. All of our puncture resistant footwear meets the ASTM standards for puncture resistance. View All Puncture-Resistant Styles...
- SLIP-RESISTANT: Our slip-resistant shoes have a tread design that channels water, oil and other slippery substances away from the outsole's hexagonal-shaped lugs to create a superior grip. Our beveled heel increases the heel surface area which maximizes traction while minimizing the chance of sliprelated injuries. While there are no government regulations currently creating slip resistant standards, all our slip resistant styles meet or exceed current industry recognized guidelines. - ERGOLITE: Our Ergolite Composite Toe Technology is exclusive to the market. It is thinner than traditional composite toes with a ballistic mesh for added strength. It is one third lighter than steel toe,
Non-conductive to heat and cold, and will not set off metal detectors. It is another name for our Composite Toe Footwear.
